Z/OS Compression/Encryption Software Enables Exploitation of zBX

TORRANCE, California, January 25, 2012 - Data 21’s ZIP/390 is z/OS-centric compression and encryption software currently used by many of the world's largest IBM Mainframe customers for efficient, secure, and flexible delivery and storage of zSeries data across the Enterprise and beyond. Its z/OS-controlled processes include ZIP, PGP and PDF compression/encryption of zSeries data. The product consists of two primary components. (1) The native z/OS Utility itself, which can operate as a standalone ZIP utility and API. And (2) a Windows IIS server component the z/OS component can transparently connect to for offloading the heavy lifting of ZIP, PGP and PDF compression/encryption work from z/OS; while remaining a z/OS controlled process end-to-end. This architecture should enable ZIP/390 customers to leverage the many advantages of the recently announced IBM zBX Blade Extensions within the tightly coupled zEnterprise "ensemble".
Data 21 delivers zIIP Specialty Engine support with ZIP/390 Release 6.1. Thus providing customers the opportunity to offload 99% percent of ZIP/390's compression/encryption overhead from GP's in support of efforts to manage software costs and improve performance. Leveraging zBX is yet another possible means for customers to accomplish these goals; while maintaining centralized secure management on the Mainframe. Other enchancements include Dynamic Allocation of GDG data-sets and support for record formats FDSA.
ZIP/390 is a cost effective solution, which can also be used to replace and consolidate costly and less efficient z/OS ZIP, PGP and PDF processes on zSeries.

ZIP/390 is offered in Standard and Secure Editions (w/AES Strong Encryption).
Replacement upgrade terms are available for replacing competing products, such as PKZIP and SecureZIP.
